日干

Day Master

Foundation

In brief

The stem of the day you were born — the central character that stands for 'you' in the chart.

What is the Day Master?

The Day Master is the upper stem of the day pillar, the center of the eight characters that represents you. Its element (Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water) and polarity are your essence, and the other seven characters all form Ten God relationships (Friend, Eating God, Direct Officer, and so on) relative to it. Strength and weakness are judged by whether this Day Master gains or loses support from its surroundings. So the first thing a reading asks is: what element is my Day Master?

How to read it

Know your Day Master's element, and you can see what supports you (Resource, Companion) and what drains you (Output, Wealth, Officer).
