Sasang Constitution — the Four Body Types
Sasang constitutional medicine, from the Donguisusebowon of Lee Je-ma, sorts people into four body types by the relative strength of their organs. Each type differs in build, temperament, and the foods that suit it. Read it as tendency, not a verdict.
太陽人Taeyang (Greater Yang) type
Strong lungs, weak liver (肺大肝小) · A creative, enterprising type with strong lung energy and weak liver energy.
少陽人Soyang (Lesser Yang) type
Strong spleen, weak kidneys (脾大腎小) · An active, passionate type with strong spleen-stomach energy and weak kidney energy.
太陰人Taeeum (Greater Yin) type
Strong liver, weak lungs (肝大肺小) · A steady, persevering type with strong liver energy and weak lung energy.
少陰人Soeum (Lesser Yin) type
Strong kidneys, weak spleen (腎大脾小) · A delicate, calm type with strong kidney energy and weak spleen-stomach energy.
