The day pillar is the day's sexagenary sign, the qi that the almanac fixes by astronomical calculation. Above it flow the year pillar, the qi of the whole year, and the month pillar, the qi of that month. How these three layers harmonize with the day master of your own chart is the heart of the day's fortune.

How to choose a good day (擇日)
Choosing an auspicious day — 擇日, in Vietnamese xem ngày tốt — reads the calendar's fixed cycles to find a date that supports an undertaking. Two rotations sit at its heart. The yellow-path and black-path gods (黃道黑道) run a twelve-day cycle keyed to the month branch: six yellow-path days are auspicious and six black-path days inauspicious for important acts.
The Twelve Day Officers (十二建除) run a parallel twelve-day cycle of activity-suitabilities. Complete (成) and Open (開) days favor beginnings; Break (破) and Danger (危) days are avoided for anything weighty.
The Twelve Day Officers (十二建除): Establish (建) · Remove (除) · Full (滿) · Even (平) · Settle (定) · Hold (執) · Break (破) · Danger (危) · Complete (成) · Gather (收) · Open (開) · Shut (閉)
Good days are purpose-specific. A wedding weighs the harmony pillars (三合·六合) and the noble-helper star, and vetoes a clash (沖) day outright; a move weighs the travel star (驛馬) and yellow-path days; an opening weighs days that reinforce your own useful element. The same date reads differently for each aim.
